I just bought a Noctua NH-U12P to replace my Zalman, which is going in my second system. I'm going to try the Noctua fans to see how they perform, kind of curious. I could really care less about LEDs^ Just give me performance.

Spaceballs, how did you mount those fans in there? Did you screw them into the heatsink?

Could be your noise issue right there

I used long zip ties.
I know those weren't the issue because I ran the fans away from everything else to test the noise.
That is, I uninstalled the fans and just had them plugged in and held in my hands. It's the fans for sure. Total crap!
I am not too worried about it, as I am using the Zalman fan and it works very well. I might just get another to run push/pull.

Ha ha. Don't feel bad. It was only $15 anyways. The fans work very well and moved a ton of air, but just make that strange noise. I think it is one of those bad batches others talk about. Some get the good ones, and some get the bad ones. Meh.
Besides, now I have some back up fans in case of emergency. And the Zalman works extremely well.
It's all good.

I got mine last week. I wrote a review on it. Here are the temps that I saw. I must say that it is a very well designed h/s.

Quote:
The Noctua is a great piece of hardware. The base is machined and does not need lapping. It is not an exact mirror finish but it is flat. The mounting system is awesome. There are only two screws that need to be removed to take the cooler off. This means that you can switch out CPUs without taking out the mobo. There is a backplate and other mounting hardware, but that stays on the board. This system offers enough pressure and an additional spring could be added for more, but its not needed for great performance.

The Noctua NF-P12-1300 fan, which is included, is an amazing fan. It moves a good amount of air while being nearly silent. It has SSO bearings. This is a normally $25-30 fan, which is including with the H/S, a big advantage over the TRUE (which includes no fan, and needs to be lapped).

Enough with the words, here are the numbers. Note the 22C ambient.

Noctua NH-U12P; 1 Fan (Noctua NF-P12-1300); Q6600 3.4/1.43v; IC Diamond; 22C Ambient;
37/36/33/36 idle
55/55/49/51 OCCT 100%

Noctua NH-U12P; 2 Fan (Scythe SY1225SL) Q6600 3.4/1.43v; IC Diamond; 22C Ambient;
36/35/33/35 idle
55/55/48/50 OCCT 100%

I compared the performance of the Noctua NF-P12-1300 to the Scythe SY1225SL. There was a 1C difference at most. Both fans were on 'high'.

I would definitely buy another one of these when I build another computer. I chose this over the TRUE because of the Fan and not needing to be lapped. Its a great product all around.

I really can't wait for my Noctua to come.

This Thermaltake Blue Orb II sucks, It's around 60f outside today here in NJ, it has been 40f all week. Today my CPU temps jumped from the normal 70-75c to 85c at 3ghz. I dropped my overclock and went back to the stock 2.4ghz and I'm still at 65c.

Note that this is under full load. I'm always SMP folding.

70-75c normal?!?!? Thats crazy, you shouldnt be anywhere near that high. MAX should be 65c and thats pushing it. And 85c = cpu DEATH. Im amazed it still works

Tjmax for a Q6600 is around 100c.
Edit: 90c for G0.

But yes, as soon as I saw 85c I shut it down and put it back to stock clocks. Running 65c at stock clocks currently. SMP folding really stresses the CPU..

Edit2: just shut down my SMP client and the temp instantly dropped to 53c.
