I'm going to be replacing my motherboard this week, and was curious about potentially upgrading my cooling solution at the same time. I've read review after review, and found that both of these coolers seem to perform similarly. I found one review that shows the Xigmatek unit cooling even better with an aftermarket fan (http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...review-11.html).
__________________The scythe unit is only able to acomodate the thickness of a 25mm fan with room for dimms on the motherboard, but I could easily fit the xigmatek with a 120x38mm Scythe Kaze Ultra fan. Should the xigmatek + kaze ultra perform better than my existing mugen with its stock fan on my quad? --Matt

Or would a TRUE be any more of an upgrade?

i think it depends on your budget. if you money isn't a problem and you don't mind putting some work into it, then go for the true. if you want something cheap and works well too. then get the s1283

Thanks! Hopefully I'll get a few more Mhz between the upgrade to the TPower i45 and the TRUE. Now what to do with the Mugen...

TRUE arrived today. It's amazing that it can perform better than the Mugen. The heatsink area is like 1/3 as deep. I guess engineering makes that much of a difference with an equal number of heat pipes.

The TRUE with an Ultra Kaze throttled down to 1850rpms keeps my Q9450@3.6 at 54C full load (after one hour of prime95_64 and furmark running at the same time). Very happy with the purchase. I saw someone using pennies for shims on the clip, so I decided to toss in an extra $.08 and use nickels instead. Fantastic heatsink!

That might be true with zinc pennies, but Nickels are 75:25 copper/nickel. IIRC, they're not much less hard than steel washers.
