I hope you now that you put the fan on your HDT-1283 the wrong direction. You should put it this way --> So it pushes the hot air out.

I realized that and corrected it when I remounted. Thanks though.

I found the problem and fixed it (I think). If you have a Gigabyte X48-Ds4 you need to update the bios for 45nm chips, so my 8400 was getting overvolted. Now it's a cool 35 degrees idle. Pretty good considering ambient is around 25C and the new AS5 hasn't cured at all.

Is lapping the xigmatek hdt-s1283 any different than your average heatsink that doesn't have the exposed copper heatpipes as part of the bottom? Just checking before I lap mine tomorrow ^_^

Here's my rig setup (lol at the pic) ![]() And that's how I planned on setting up the heatsink/fan. My antec 900 has the large 200mm exhaust right above the cpu, as well as the 120mm exhaust right behind the cpu. My plan was to situate it as such that the fan pulls the heat from that side of the heatsink (<----) direction and can also be lifted (heat rises, of course) through the exhaust fan. Am I totally off base?

1) I've never seen any fans in that position of the case mounted as an intake, so I'm pretty sure it's an out take. It's easy to test--just put your hand next to one side while it's on, and you should be able to feel if it's pushing or pulling.

it seems odd that he would have the fan as an exhaust blowing towards the front of the case is why I asked..

I would like to update my listing as I previously stated the load temp as the temp when I was running Orthos. I have since changed my mind on how I measure my load temp since Orthos stress is only synthetic and will never happen in any of your everyday applications.
So here's my new temps and new ambient as well. My load temp is measured while running F@H. Ambient: 23 C Idle: 25 C Load: 54 C

I got mine in Monday.
Running 1.35 volts @ 2.7 and idle in my warm room is 30c, goes down to 25c in the living room, under OCCT temp never goes above 47c. Anyone with a 790fx board able to use the first 2 DIMM slots? I had stable 2.8 on my zalman 9500 and when I switched to the xigmatek I had to move the sticks over to the other 2 slots and now my stability is horrid at anything higher than 2.7, I think I might cut out the small portion of the 2-3 fins that are covering it
