Just a taster as this has just started, but a lot more to come soon...
Introduction This has been a long time planning - while Vapor over at XS has some great fan tests up, and SPCR also test fans on a regular basis, with the constantly changing fan market not every fan has been reviewed. The one which stood out was the Xilence Red Wing; a forum favourite ![]() To carry out the testing, I bought an anemometer - it's accurate to around 4%, a 50cfm fan could actually be pushing anywhere between 48cfm and 52cfm, so bare this in mind. Airflow is measured from about 11cm away from the fan itself, using a shroud, and the fan pulls the air through the probe (as recommended by Vapor). For radiator airflow testing, a XSPC 120.1 radiator will be used, with the fan set up to pull through the radiator ![]() I'll provide more information on the dB tests when their done. Every fan will be tested at 5V, 7V and 12V ![]() If you have any fans you'd like to see me test, feel free to either point me to a link where I can buy them or I'll accept loan offers when I get the dB meter ![]() Pictures and Specifications Xilence Red Wing ![]() Rated CFM: 68cfm Rated dB: 21.2dB(A) Thickness: 25mm Connections: 4 pin molex, 3 pin (with RPM monitor) Package: 4 fan screws Price: £5.49 Notes: needed to be hand started at 5V Noctua NF-P12 ![]() Rated CFM: 54cfm Rated dB: 19.8dB(A) Thickness: 25mm Connections: 3 pin (with RPM monitor) Package: 4 fan screws, 4 vibration dampeners, Low-Noise and Ultra Low-Noise Adapters Price: £14.99 / $20.75 Notes: Fan cable pre-sleeved Yate Loon D12SL-12 ![]() Rated CFM: 47cfm Rated dB: 28dB(A) Thickness: 25mm Connections: 4 pin molex Package: 4 fan screws (optional) Price: £3.99 / $4.99 Notes: Pass-through molex connection Arctic Cooling 12025L ![]() Rated CFM: 37cfm Rated dB: 22dB(A) Thickness: 25mm Connections: 3 pin Package: 4 fan screws, case badge Price: ~£3 (no current UK stock) / ~$5 (no current US stock) Notes: no RPM wire, cable pre-sleeved, black 3 pin connector, needed to be hand started at 5V Akasa Amber ![]() Rated CFM: 44.8cfm Rated dB: 18dB(A) Thickness: 25mm Connections: 3 pin Package: 4 fan screws, 3 pin to 4 pin adapter Price: £6.99 / $13.95 Notes: CFM Tests So far: Waiting on Marcus000 to send me his microphone equipment so I can record dB ![]() Fans to come: SilenX 25mm SilenX 38mm Lian Li generic Sharkoon "golfball" AcRyan Blackfire4 Coolermaster blue LED Couple more generic ones And some others... 4. Thanks for the taster prosser13! Looking forward to the rest. Just one comment/question...will you define the fans a bit more as you update this? Specifically on size (120mm, 80mm, etc) as some newer member's might not recognize these right off the bat...or some of us older members may not recall (and we will need to look up the specs ourselves and being lazy farts we don't like that..hehehe).
Also, do you plan to include any Scythe fans? Any x38mm fans? That would be the topper to your teaser. Cheers and thanks again for this, will keep checking in.

Woohoo. Another reason why I'm glad I got the NF-P12. Could you please test the Scythe Slipstream fans?

The fans are all 120mm at the moment. I'll get that added as soon as I get the next graph update online I'll see if I can hunt one down for you - they seem to come in 1000, 2000, 3000rpm varieties; 2000rpm probably suits this test best so I'll see what I cna do ![]() Quote:
I'll take a deeper look when I'm a bit more awake (just got up)Quote:

As for 38mm fans, any preferences apart from the Ultra Kazes? Update coming later, thanks for the feedback

I'd love to see Panaflo fans tested here - the H1 or M1 would be the ideal choice I think. I'd also like to see results from the Scythe S-Flex series, probably the 1600RPM "F" variant.
