Post [Opinion] Why the TRUE BE is the best Air Cooler

so, i can put money on the fact that about 99% of you air coolers have read an argument between the T.R.U.E. back edition (Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme), Tuniq tower, zalman 9700, xigmatech's wierdly names hsf's, and many other cpu coolers. I will give you a few reasons on why I beleive the true is the best.
1. It comes stock with two fan clips for two 120x25mm fans to cool your true with push/pull air flow.
2. It comes with a bolt on bracket, unlike all other LGA775 heatsinks, which all use push pins. (F**K push pins, i HATE them)
3. It comes with good thermal paste. There is no need to buy AS5 to replace this, its good enough.
4. Its black, and looks really cool in your case.
5. You will get watercooling temps, for 1/3 the price.

There are only 2 downsides to getting the true black edition.
1. Its limited edition, get it while it lasts.
2. Its price, $70.00 is a bit much for most of you guys, but its worth not frying your $400-1400 cpu.

Hope this helps,
dahdout

You're overlooking a minor detail: actual cooling performance. The 'regular' ULTRA beats the BE most likely.. .as do coolers like the OCZ Vendetta 2.

Push/pull won't add that much performance, so it's not a real advantage imo. Plus, attaching a second fan to any other cooler isn't that hard, and can be done with cheap materials.

There are many other LGA 775 coolers that come with backplate/screws like the Tuniq Tower. And for the Xigmatek, you can buy a bolt-through kit, and the cooler + kit is still a lot cheaper than the ULTRA.

Most other coolers come with good Thermal paste. Another moot point.

Whether it looks cool depends on your taste. It for sure doesn't add to the fact whether it's the best.

And you'll get decent temps. Watercooling temps? nope. Good temps? yep. but the regular TRUE, the OCZ Vendetta 2, and the Xigmatek with the 120mm fan (the upright one) with the bolt-through kit will challenge the temps of the BE. That black coating actually deminishes performance.

You need 4 fan clips, not 2 for 2 fans also.

edit: it does come with 2 sets (BE edition)

Water cooling temps you say? The TRUE can be compared to a low end water cooling system at best but it most definitely will not perform anywhere near a high end system. Obviously a high end system costs a-lot more than the TRUE but that high end wc'ing system will also cool better than the TRUE by a good margin. It's all a matter of how much money you have and personal taste imo.

I disagree with u man, cuz i'm using TRUE BE. First it's surface is not flat and you have to lap it to get good performance. I got 5c-10c different after lapping, but still can't compare to watercool. My CPU is running 3.0ghz and on a hot day, underload is about 46c. Compare to other people's result with the regular TRUE, I guess regular TRUE perform better than the BE. Last thing Push and Pull don't make much different, 1c-2c may, depend on fans.

I was quite disappointed that the TRUE didnt come with a single fan.

Still, I guess the temps are decent for non-lapped: 30C Idle 300x9 1.25vCore Q6600..

I hope this gives you a better perspective of things:

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...-review-8.html

Only with 2 fans in push-pull configuration, and at what cost?
I'll settle for mine, since it comes ahead of the BE most of the time.
