So I just replaced the mobo in another pc, and now it's using the stock intel cooler. Wow that thing is noisy and inefficient, and a pita to mount.
So I want to get a better air cooler that can be silent, and I'm thinking of the Xigamatek HDT-S1283 with this retention bracket. Sound like a good choice? edit: Is this cooler effective at 800rpm? It needs to be dead silent.

The Xig is one of the better cooler, that retention bracket will make installation a little easier so why not,it's definitely better than stock.

i just bought one! i got the XIGMATEK HDT-S963
and i love it! it IS silent with a zalman fanmate, and i have the fan set at like..50% power full load on my cpu is 38 degrees, but that was with a major stress test.. usually..i never go above 32 i got the separate retention bracket and love it aswell

It's one of the best. I just got mine and I get about 32c at the lowest. I don't have the bolt thru kit yet but it's on my list. The fan that comes with it is quiet but not silent and it's really not that bad.
