I would rather use a bolt through kit if I could, I am currently doing that at the moment with my current crappy cooler.
It already has the brackets, see here:

(Kind of dinky, but it'll work.)

I am looking for some way to mount it to a backplate or Bolt Through design.

I am not sure what others there are that would be better, but those, other then the TRUE, are what I am looking at right now.

If I were you, I think I would choose the Xigmatek HDT-S1283. The Zalman is a good cooler, but it can be noisy at high speed and is also a little bit expensive. As for the Thermalright Ultimate IFX-14, well, it is not as performant as the Ultra 120 and it will really need a large amount of airflow to cool its large surface.

Get the HDT-S1283 along with a bolt-thru kit.

Does the bolt through kit work with AM2 devices though? I guess I could rig something up with my current bolt kit right now, but I want to make sure it is possible.

The bolt thru kit is LGA775 only

Actually the IFX-14 performs on par with the TRUE except it does so with lower-rpm fans. It would outperform it by 1-3C with two identical fans as a TRUE.
