all depends on what ur cpu and heatsink are like. then you have to put on the right amount of thermal paste accordingly. i personally like as5. idle temps of 23C on a stock q6600 is pretty nice.

I have been using MX-2, and it seems pretty good. I am tempted to try out OCZ Freeze as it seems to be doing very well on all the reviews I have seen. As well as Diamond TIC.

Well ATM with 24 ambient i get 42 idle but when its @ stock lowest it was 32C. Does this mean thermal paste has very significant factor on heat transfer

IIRC, MX-2 is the best, by a slight margin.
Never used it, but Shin Etsu and AS5 have always been good to me. I'll be trying out a tube in my next build. ~Gooda~

From my personal experience, this order.
AS5<MX-2/TX-2<OCZ Freeze.

AS5, MX-2, OCZ Freeze, they are all within 1-2°C of each other for most people. Get whichever is cheaper.
Correct application and amount is more important than which one you use IMO unless your on the extreme edges of OCing, but they your using something like Shin Etsu or than Diamond stuff.

Both are great choices but the Arctic Cooling MX-2 is better.
