That sounds a little extreme. Could it be possible the cooler wasn't seated right to begin with?

Make sure you have Proper tension from the clamp....Rember you are removing material... I used a Thin piece of tin for the Post to compress against....Nice and Snug.

It sounds like that might be apart to your problem.... Or Just try to reseat the cooler again.

Sometimes even with a lapped surface you can put too little Thermal Paste (AS5,OCZ freeze) and it will cause temps to rise (Why I have no idea but it happend to me)

Your temps Should not be worse..... Gains maybe be small...But they also maybe significant.

By the way....Did you Spread your AS5 or do the Drop in the middle?

I had way better luck Spreading it thinly

It was seated correctly. That's what happens when the base isn't close to being flat, you see some pretty big decreases in temps once you lap it.

I don't have the time to read everyone's posts so I'll just say that I lapped my Vendetta 2 (600 grit) to remove the grooves and improve the texture. Even if I would have done it badly at least there would have been less copper for the heat to have to pass through.

400,1000,2000 Grits and laped the Proc for 2 hours and then Xig for like 30min! I just got it shinny and the pipes level with the metal between them! Its really flat now!

Ive spead it and ive tryed putting a dot in the middle! The stuff that was included with the Xig (White Cream) got the lowest temps but i used the rest of it on my 8800GT's!

Making it more flat wouldn't hurt, but has it occured to you that your temps are so high because of your extremely high vcore? 1.66v!? The most I've ever seen recommended by anyone has been 1.6v with water cooling and I personally still think that's too high. How long do you plan on keeping your chip? You're going to burn it out at that rate. 1.55v max for air.

I have to agree with WBas....That is really too much Vcore.

But at the same time it is YOUR chip and you can do with it as you please

The only thing a lower vcore does is gets lower idle! Im stressing 1.5v 3.3GHz and its still at 65C Load! The 1.66V let me run at 3.5Ghz but just bad idles!
