Default Lower Fan Speed on Power Supply?

well basically i have a APEX PSU that came with the Mini-ITX Case for my Dual Core Atom board system. I have lowered the chipset fan speed to a low level so its not as noticeable. But the PSU Fan is still pretty loud is there anyway to reduce the psu fan speed

That's pretty ridiculous question.

That's the equivalent of throwing a blanket over your TV instead of turning it off.

1.) Why do you assume the PSU doesn't need a cooling fan?
2.) Removing the fan, or just disconnecting it's power connection, would be the way to do what you want.
3.) You could replace the fan with a quieter one
4.) You could run the fan on 7V
5.) You could use a rheostat on the fan.

I'd be very careful about reducing the air flow to a PSU though.

>_> why does that picture have an image of m y rosewill powersupply (which is quite loud, but has a 3 fan speed setting, I run it at medium speed though hah)
though....the only reason why I can do that is because it's getting fresh air constantly....

OH the dangers of not cleaning a computer though. you will have LOUD power supply fans, and one day your computer will start crashing constantly. when you look at your voltage rails, you will see a couple of them going everywhere they want. (my dad's powersupply blew the 3.3v rail, and it went anywhere from 2.5v up to 7.8v and toasted the motherboard)

I do not advise you try and slow down your powersupply fan if it doesn't have settings to do so in the first place. if it does, keep it at the medium setting as the minimum, BUT by all means do replace it with a higher CFM silent fan. it'll aid in cooling and be nice and quiet

Because that's what Rosewill's do. They have no protection circuits, when they go, they take everything with them. That's one of the reasons there's a $200 price difference between a PC Power and Cooling PSU and a Rosewill. People who shop for PSUs based on power/price get what they pay for, and that's all.

ah, well, luckily I monitor AND log all my voltages, so I'll be able to catch it if it starts getting fishy.
(the model I have has over volt, over current, and overheat protection circuits built in)

Ah, good luck. You'll know exactly what happened when everything gets blown.
