The Noctua NH-U12P actually beats the TRUE... same with the Vendetta 2, though the Noctua beats that out by 1 degree... take your pick from those two

Aw dude, don't get depressed over that! That's what the dremel's for! And, aluminum's much easier to cut than cold rolled steel!

If I were you, I'd take this opportunity to start modding the case. Turn it into a positive. Oh, and I think there are some new coolers out there that may be comparable to the TRUE.

Haha, as much as I'd love to agree, let him love his brand new case a bit longer

Stay tuned for my build log, which I should be posting on here soon. The case has already been "murder" modded, and I would cut my arm before I made any cuts in the case. It's a work of art in and of itself.

Hence the reason I'd rather replace the cooler.

But it's like Ducky said: They're all great coolers - can't go wrong with any of them.
I just finished looking at the CCF:

Wait, so that case is mid-tower? yes
  • That case has a side-panel for mobo mounting feature which can open and close, right? If yes, go to next one.
  • And when you close that motherboard panel on you case, you cooler clashes with the top; therefore won't close? If yes, go to next one.
  • Then try mounting it by the old-fashion way and not opening the motherboard tray panel.

It's kinda not related with the thread, but that happened to me with my Smilodon case.

I don't think you understand the real source of my problem, because I don't understand your solution.

I doubt that it is a mid-tower, it's pretty big. I think it's a full tower.

I'm not sure what you mean by "side panel mobo mounting feature". I am fully able to close my case all the way with the HSF mounted.

The problem occurs when I have the HSF mounted on the MB tray while it is removed, and when I try and slide the tray back into place, the top of the HSF gets caught on the vertical support on the back of the case.

There is no door, just that the MB tray slides out and back in.

And I am trying to not have to mount it the "old fashioned way". With the amount of money I spent on this case, the removable MB tray and the convenience that comes along with it is partly what I paid for.

Thanks for the help, though!

Okay, so I finally measured it, and it looks to be about 2cm (20mm) too tall.

That means I need something under 140mm mounting height.

Out of the list I posted in the OP, that leaves only the Tuniq (108mm) and the Noctua NH-U9B (125mm).

I like the Tuniq because of it's reputation and the fact that it's pretty short.

The Noctua has my attention, however, due to it being relatively smaller all around (makes it easier to mount).

What would you do? Is there another cooler that fits the bill that I'm overlooking? How many degrees would I be looking to gain by switching to one of the other coolers? Would I be looking at a 2C increase with the Tuniq and a 3C increase with the Noctua? If so, those differences are negligible enough for my intentions that I would be willing to go with the size difference alone.

Thanks for all the help!
