Default Issue with Sunbeam Core contact and 780i EVGA FTW mobo

Hey all:

Attempted to install heatsink ( (Sunbeam Core Contact)) in my system (780i ftw evga board) but found that the right retention clip does not have enough clearance to clip in due to the VREG heatsink directly below the mounting bracket.

Options are:

1) Turn the mounting 90 degrees and have the heatsink (plus attatched fan) venting out the top of the case (antec 900, so it's got a vented hole on the top). While this means the airflow isn't going straight from front-to-back, it should be sucking hot air out of the case nicely, no?

2) Dremel some space out of the VREG heatsink. (Loathed to do this.)

3) Buy another heatsink.

Any suggestions/recommendations?

I'd just get a different heatsink. Make sure you measure your space and compare it to the new one.

What he said. I've heard bad things about the mount on the Core Contact Freezer anyway. Most people are saying it doesn't provide enough pressure.

Yes, have been finding comments about the clips lacking pressure. I'm now considering the Thermalright 120.

Any thoughts on that one?
