It's not the temperature that the disk is kept at that worries me, it's the principle that HDDs are sensative to temperature changes and will physically expand and contract (the disks inside them that store the data) depending on their temps. Here's a quick link to the effect under observation, which makes me think temp consistency might be a function of the hdd's life.

Last year I was getting 39C on load and 10 - 15C on idle with my window open.

About a 6C drop on load and 20C drop on idle.
