Default applying thermal paste to a xigmatek hdt-1283

I bought a xig 1283 and i was wondering how to apply the thermal paste to it, i know its different than a normal heatsink. what temps should i be getting on a q6600 stock with a full tower case good air flow?

Just the two lines in the middle as shown in the picture above will do. Pack the channels in between with a bit of TIM as well (also in pic). That's how I did mine and it spreads nicely.

EDIT: Here's a link to the source of that picture if you want more details.

I always use the usual blob method on the CPU, but with the Xig cooler I also use my finger to spread a very thin layer over it's whole surface, filling the gaps between the heat pipes and the h/s body, then I just wipe the heat pipes clean, leaving the AS5 in the gaps.

really, there tend to be two schools of thought about applying TIM to heatsinks with exposed heatpipes. Either way (TIM on pipes, TIM on dividers) is acceptable.

Why not just put the paste on the cpu? That is how I have mine I didn't put anything on the Xig and my temps are awesome.

thanks for your replies guys. I will try putting a bit in between the heat pipes and see how that works.
