Why is it smoking?

I voted Xiggy, and not just because I own one. The coolers you listed are all very similar in performance. The TRUE will maybe get 1 or 2c lower temps unless it is heavily modified (lapped, washer mod, better fans, etc). Yes, the TRUE is technically better, but is 2c worth almost $30 to you?

If I had the money, I'd go with the noctua since I value silence
In reality, I can only afford the Xiggy though

I like the Xig S1283 with the extra X retention bracket for the price.
Most of the above coolers are close in performance, but more importantly, it depends on the motherboard and how crowded the mofset coolers, northbridge coolers and ram slots are to the cooler mounting workspace. Also, if a case doesn't have good intake or bad wire management, restricted airflow will negate the real performance.

Sup mang! If you wanna save money then get the xiggy. Like mojo said, real day performance difference between all those will be very minimal. If I had to choose between those, it would come down only to price and looks, not performance. Hell I'll sell you my xiggy with the bolt from sidewinder next week when I get my water setup arrive
I might have traded you for the shroud even.

I don't get why people say the Xigmatek is loud, I've never heard it. In fact by default it doesn't even start up until my CPU hits 50c.

I voted 1283. Mine works great. I had to do the usual things to get it to cool at the higher OCs. Lapped it (takes forever because you want to take as little as possible off the pipes = lots of checking and slow going), configured a push/pull setup with 2 yate loons and a 25mm shroud made from an old kaze and it keeps my 3.6GHz 1.3000 vid q6600 with a vcore of 1.48 under 60 degrees no matter how long I stress it.

U12P for a silent rig or the TRUE for a performance rig.
