Very nice finish on the lapping job. Didn't ever think of using ICD to use an abrasive. How much did your temps drop?

Mothers mixed into the water while wet sanding actually works the best. My last two steps were 800 & 1000 and the 1000 was wet sanded with Mothers mixed into the water. Then a final polish with mothers only with a jewelers cloth. The residue scare is total BS it's copper, what are you gouing to do to it with Mothers? Anyway for the faint of heart just use ArtiClean Thermal Metal Purifier. My stuff is ICE cold and it works.

I thought metal polish was detrimental to temps?

Next reseat, I'm gonna put my CPU/TRUE through a quick 2000grit round, and buffing with some spare MX-2 to see what happens.

I posted my method not because of its effectiveness, but because it only uses two paper grits, and doesn't take very long to do. There are many ways to achieve a good lap, mine just helps save some money and time.

Edit: Also I don't have a delta for my results as I did this lap job simultaneously with a mobo and hsf change. It is staying cool at 2.88ghz though

Would regular isopropyl alcohol do the trick? If so, then I'm definitely going for the polish. I have a whole tube of Autosol here.

I'd be careful what kind of polish you use. Mothers is an abrasive metal polish. I don't know what autosol has in it, but be careful.
