Well I've used it once on my Q6600 prior to lapping it. All it did aside from make the nickel extremely shiny, was make the writing on top very difficult to read (and somewhat erased it ever so slightly).

I just wanted to find out if the 1 hour lap job actually did anything to temps on the old processor you were working on. I know it looks shiny and all, but the connection between the CPU and the HSF is what makes it really important. With that kind of lap job, I was just wondering what kind of results you got within an hour of lapping. Just because my cpu is really shiny doesn't make it flat and flush with the HSF.

Looks good, I spent about 3 hrs last night doing mine
Took a long time, but started with 220 Grit and did that for about 1.5 Hrs! which took the most time, since It was hard from keeping the H/s from jumping on the sandpaper, but after the 220 went to 400, which took 20 mins, then 600, 800, 1000, 1500 and it looked nice I do have to say I already seen the temps lower about 7 degrees on the hottest core, and it was installed at 4am last night, so when the AS5 sets in I hope to see more decreases, hopefully 10 degrees. But I am happy with the job I did, since it was the 1st time doing it and it looks good. I was surprised how uneven it was even after I did the razor blade test. I marked it was a black marker and sanded it down on the 220 and it took 1 hr to remove all of the marker, very even on one side, so I saw a nice improvement.

I refuse to use an actual polishing agent, because there is a possibility you will leave a residue. I use the ICD because it is a thermal paste and a natural abrasive equivalent to 2500+ grit sandpaper. Better safe than sorry.

Has anyone ever tried using a belt sander? I have an E6750 and was considering lapping it, I was thinking of having my belt sander give it a few rounds (on 120 grit and slow speeds of course) before hand sanding it.

If your scared of polish leaving residue take your pics of the shiny lap then use rubbing alcohol to get rid of any possible residue.
Edit: I wouldn't recommend a belt sander because you might not get a flat surface which is the point of lapping. This is why most people lap on a sheet of glass.
