Default 9850Be and a True

Hey folks,

I am picking up my Phenom on tomorrow. I will have to pay $44 for cross border costs even though it was marked as a gift. I am going to play the computer n00bie and say that this guy I met said it would be a good upgrade and since I have no money he just gave it to me. Even if I gotta pay the extra it is still cheaper than what I would pay for it here.

I was going to go with a xig 1283 to match with my new(ish) 9850 but I just couldn't pass on this deal for a True for $60. It does not come with a fan so please recommend me one!! Would a Kaze Jyuni 110cfm work ok or would a 38mm fan be better? How about the fan being on it's side and not standing up? I do intend to oc this cpu as much as I can and I'll be running two vm smps on it so it needs to be cool

And I will be using my Antec 900 case. Right now I got one of the KJ's on the side panel and I am wondering about the clearance for the True. I am pretty sure that if I pointed the hsf upwards that it will clear the side fan (this is why I changed my mind about the xig 1283). Should I also get a plate for extra snugness to keep the True attached to my cpu? How about having to lap it? I guess I can take the time to sand it down flatter but will I really need to do it?

You could use a Yate-Loon fan with high CFM. - And stick another one the back.

Stick with a 38mm fan for the TRUE. You need that static pressure, since the fins are packed tightly.
For cheap, you can pick up a Scythe Ultra Kaze, but I would go with something better like a Panaflo, Delta, or San Ace. The latter fans have better bearings than the Scythes, which have sleeve bearings.

Hey guys. Thanks for the quick replies. I had remembered about the 38mm for a True cause of the static pressure needed to get air between the fins. This (NCIX) is where I can get fans. Or I can pick this Panaflo up locally

For controlling the speeds of the hsf I will probably use the little dongle that came with my Zalman. I got it sticking through one of the water cooling holes in the back of my A900 and it is handy. I bought 3 Slipstream Kaze Jyuni fans last month to replace the two front case fans and take off the black covers for better air, I got two guards also to stop things from entering my case.

Ok then. I gotta grab a Sunbeam 4 Port Rheobus from Ncix anyhow so I thought that one of the two below fans would do the trick. I am not sure about how loud they might be even though I am going to use that Zalmon hsf controller on them. I like bigger for better but would I need the 142cfm 3700 or could I just got for the 3300rpm. The price is only $5 between the two of them.

If you have a fan controller, get the higher CFM Delta. The Panaflo is a great choice also. I have a Panaflo, and I found it just a little too loud for me at stock without a fan controller, and it slowed down too much using some undervolting connectors. If I had the fan controller to go with it, I would definitely have it on my Noctua right now.

The panaflo Ultra High Flow (114.7 CFM) cost me only 9.99 here so I'll get this one. Plus I can pick up the true, my 9850 and this fan all in one day. It's gonna be quite a few bus's but worth it in the end.

What exactly is a Hydro Wave bearing anyhow?

Answers my question for sure. I don't read enough of this type of reviews and I really should.

Panaflo Hydro Wave Bearing by Panaflo (Panasonic) (quoted from the Anglia (UK) web site) The Hydro Wave bearing is found on fans from a number of different brands, but mostly on Panasonic fans. The brand is now part of NMB, but HW fans are still listed in the NMB-MAT DC axial fan section of Panasonic's industrial products site. The HW fans have model numbers that start with the letters FBA.

"HWB addresses the traditional weakness of sleeve bearings… axial friction. By utilizing a unique system, the thrust plate “floats” on a circulating film of oil, which greatly reduces the axial friction and the bearing’s deterioration. The HWB pattern on the bearing virtually eliminates thrust plate contact which is depicted above. As the shaft rotates it acts as a pump constantly circulating the oil in the radial, as well as the axial direction. The sealed system and reservoirs of oil maintain the proper lubrication to minimize mechanical contact and prolong the fan’s life expectancy. The radial direction analysis shown above is essentially the same as a traditional sleeve bearing. Panasonic’s unique HWB reduces the axial contact."

I pictured a miniature wave pool that you find at a water park and the bearings would be the people getting sloshed around. I wasn't that far off

I'm baaaaack...did you miss me?

So, I am not going to get any different fans for this month. But what I did do was take the old fan that seized on my old psu and I made it into a shroud. I tested a kaze jyuni 110cfm fan and although air got through the true it wasn't very much, as I had known. Then I put the shroud on it and gave it another test...waaaaay more air goes through it. So for now that is what I am going to use.

I was going to go with either a panaflo or a delta but the store the panaflo is waaaay down south of town whilst yesterday I was waaaaay up north and it was getting too late in the day. The delta I should have ordered when I did the same for a Sunbeam 4 Port Rheobus from NCIX but it was too late by the time I got back home.

So wish me luck and I am going to shut down soon to make my system shiny and new.
