Jab-Tech's "Fake yates" The Truth

Okay long post, i want to get this confusion sorted out for myself and others. A few threads popped up proving that identical model yate loons purchased from both petra's and jabtech were indeed different fans. The jabtech yate's motor was a smaller motor found in 80mm fans which causes more noise and probably less performance. The fan housing and even the fan blades were different. here are some pictures to show these findings with their original thread and author below.

http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=595980

So these findings finally explain why any non petra yate loon sucked so badly. The author of this review is Vapor and the review can be found here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ht=Yate+review

This review was in 2007 so im wondering if jabtech has since cleaned up their act and started selling genuine yate loons that perform identical to the same model that petra's sells. In the above threads from ocforum jabtech claimed that it was just a "bad batch" of fans...

OKAY that was all just proof so that nobody could reply with "that was just a rumor". I need 8 D12SM-12 Yate Loons:

http://www.jab-tech.com/YATE-LOON-12...d-pr-3770.html

8 For $34.99 shipped

http://www.petrastechshop.com/12yalod1cafa1.html

8 For $53.48 Shipped.

That is a very big difference for the same fan, my question is am i going to receive a genuine yate loon that performs great like the fans purchased from petras in vapors review? or a jabtech knock off that clicks and performs like a pile of crap? Sorry for the giant thread and thank you for any input
.

EDIT: I have contacted Jabtech and the fans are indeed different then those that are sold from petra's.

I can say for certain they are not knock off, I have all shipping docs to prove the point of origin. The bearing/motor assembly is smaller in the Low and Medium, the high speed are the same. The fans work and we stand behind the product, but at the end of the day if you pay $3 for a fan you can expect to get a $3 fan.

I don't think that there is away to know until you see them.

But, were it me, I would call both companies and ask in no uncertain terms if they would provide a guarantee of authenticity. And, should the fans not be the real-deal, that you be able to return them for a full refund.

Petra's does supposedly as well, yet the two continue to sell obviously very different fans.

I know what Petra's pays for theirs, and it is obvious that with the price Jab-tech sells their fans for, they are paying a lot less for them wholesale than Petra's is, regardless of the source. That to me says they are an inferior product, and their blade design, motor, and performance numbers agree.

And the plot thickens. Perhaps Yate is making/providing the junk fans.

I'm guessing that Jab-tech asked/pressured yate to sell the fans at a cheaper price, and they delivered, but with the cheaper price they also got cheaper fans.

As I said before, with the prices Jab-tech sells their fans for, and what Petras pays for theirs, it is obvious that Petras pays more for their fans.

I'm not trying to say that makes Jab-tech bad, because the prices they sell the fans for, even if lower quality, are still incredibly high value. That still doesn't change the fact that the fans sent to Petras by Yate are higher quality units.

Thank you for the input, i might try calling jabtech about the issue. Though im not sure whats going to stop them from flat out lying to me. Im not too worried about Petra's though, its just much more expensive.

The only fan that i would purchase that doesnt have a sleeve bearing would be the S-flex's that performed great in vapors review but after doing the math it was just so much more expensive.

8 Yates = $34.99 shipped from Jabtech
8 Sflex = $106.41 shipped from Jabtech

More then triple the price for the same amount of fans

Quality comes at a price.

I have yates from both PTS and JT and the PTS are noticeably quieter and only 1 has died compared to 3 from JT. I would take them apart to take pics but they have been gutted... and i dont trust my self enough taking them apart even though they are 5 and 3 dollars

I remember reading about this when the :turd: first hit the Fan (Sorry
had to)
IIRC and this jives with what irak iandh and Jab-tek and XS all stated.
YL has several different factories for their fans and they produce different products-
YL takes them in and depending on the total quality (motor type and size, fan assembly etc.) they then offer them at different price points to their customers!

So technicaly - they ARE YL fans;
Therefore Jab-tech & others are NOT selling fakes, just the lower quality units offered by YL!
They are just selling the lower quality units at a significant price reduction-

So I guess it all goes back to "You get what you pay for!"

Cheers ALL

(Personally, Auld- I'd search around, suck it up, and just get the S-Flex's with their S-FDB! for as cheap as possible!
(Hint: every Blue moon NE has them on OB)

If you want to see if yours are "fake" it's easy to do so.

1.) Peel off the sticker

2.) use a flat-head screwdriver to pop the plastic washer off

3.) remove the fan blades and check out the motor size

4.) put it back together

This pretty much sums it up.

I don't think Jab-Tech is trying to pull one over on anybody, they are just selling cheap fans for cheap. Petras are selling slightly less cheap fans for slightly less cheap.

What risk? I've taken apart all my fans (excluding the Nanoxias, I can't figure out how to get past the magnet).
