Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme

Pros
  • One of the best air coolers for nearly 2 years.
  • Sturdy/reliable design.
  • Anti vibration strips included.
  • Simple mounting design.

Cons
  • Tall won't fit in some smaller cases.
  • No fan included, con( depends on who you ask)
  • Fan installation can be difficult.
  • Questionable base, flatness/roughness.
  • Sometimes requires lapping to realize full potential.
  • Price, 2 years..c'mon lower the price already.

ProlimaTech Megahalems

Pros
  • Freaking seXXXy.
  • Excellent/easy mounting system.
  • Better performance out of the box(beats a lapped TRUE)
  • Flat/smooth base.

Cons
  • Tall won't fit in some smaller cases.
  • No fan included, con(depends on who you ask)
  • Provided fan clip does not support a 120/38mm fan. Alternative mounting method
  • High profile NB clearance issue.
  • First dimm slot obstructed when using a 38mm fan.
  • No anti vibration strips, loud compared to the TRUE.
  • Price..Thermalrights fault.

Test system/methodology
  • Thermaltake Armor JR
  • 2 120mm Thunderblades(Intake)
  • 1 Antec Tricool High(Exhaust)
  • Panaflo M1A1 120mm/38mm
  • AS5 Thermal paste fresh(line method)
  • Ambient 25°c(77°f)
  • 10 minutes Idle
  • Q6600 Vcore 1.44v 400*8
  • 8 passes Small ffts Prime95(10 minutes)

Note TRUE is lapped
Megahalems base is flat/smooth.
I'll consider lapping the Mega only if the TRUE utterly wipes the floor with the Mega.

Summary:

I had my doubts going into this, no way could my lapped TRUE be bested.
Even with all of the issues, I'm satisfied with the performance of the Megahalems.
Air cooling freaks of the world unite..we are one step closer to WC temps.

One more thing
Ambient temp was 1°c higher while testing the Megahalems.

Megahalems results with cured AS5.

You can see where I had to trim the NB cooler, also notice the very secure mounting system.
No play at all, great pressure.

Velcro FTW

Are you planning on lapping/pressure modding each? If so, can you test them at stock as well?

Wonder how Optimus Prime will do. Probably will beat the TRUE; it takes Thermalright to beat Thermalright.
