Default Question: Best CFM to dBA 120 fans

I'm looking to buy several 120mm fans, but I want something that has a good balance between CFM and dBA. It looks to me like the Xigmateks are pretty good, but I haven't done a whole lot of looking/comparing yet.

Good Question, I'm interested in the same thing. I want to upgrade (at least) my CPU fan. I'm presently using a Scythe Mugen-2 cooler with the Scythe fan that came with it. It's rated at 74.25cfm and is very quiet at 26.5 dBA I want to try something with a little more cfm and as quiet as I can get it.

I found that the Scythe Slipstream series seems to have a balance of good airflow and low noise, particularly the Scythe SY1225SL12SH 120mm "Slipstream" it flows 110+ cfm at 37 dBA. At least this is the one that I'm going to try.

Another is the Aerocool XtremeTurbine 120mm Black Case Fan It's specs are a respectable 90 cfm at 32 dBA

The Scythe Slipstream is a lot cheaper at about $9 to the Aerocool Extreme Turbine's $18

I have 2 Scythe "slipstream" 120's. They are fairly quiet and move some good air. The Ultra Kaze's on the other hand... leaf blower.

yeah, so far the Scythe and Xigmateks are looking pretty promising. Maybe if I do enough research I'll make a graph representing all the data.

Scythe S-Flex series fans, no question. They have the Sony fluid dynamic bearings, are very quiet, and last forever. They also have very good static pressure for 25mm fans.

From everything I have read/heard, the Sycythe Slipstreams are great fans for case airflow. Seems they lack the static pressure for direct cooling (course this may only be true for water cooling). But the S-Flex seem to come across as great fans and the Yateloons on a fan controller seem to be good too.

again, I have not had any experience with these, my current case only has 6 80mm fans in it and I cant wait to get rid of it.

I have 4 high speed yate loons on a fan controller and even when i turn those things down to almost off my temps do not increase at all. I just turned off all my fans except for the exhaust right behind the cpu cooler and my temps actually dropped a degree from 34C to 33C. I have been debating on getting 140mm fans like the slipstreams or the ultra kazes but i am torn between those two.

The medium speed Yate Loons are excellent fans. The Zalman fans are also good, but a bit hard to come by. The Thermaltake Thunderblades are also good. If you want high pressure fans, you can't beat the Panaflos (do the 7V mod and they're whisper quiet).

Just purchased some San Ace 1011's from newark.com that are top of the line but they will cost you $19.
