Default Best Cooler?

Hi all, i currently have a Zalman 9700 LED (or similar) and want to get a better, hopefully quiter cooler.

I've ben lookign at the true, the 'megatron' as some refer to it, and the noctua

Which would you recommend? I like the idea of being able to add one or two of your own 120mm fans too

Thanks for the help

xigmatek dark knight is cheap and very effective. the true is nice, but from what ive read you need to lap it to get the full potential. i run the v10, its a beast, a pain in the butt to work with, but it runs cool

Could check out the Scythe Mugen 2. I've seen reviews on it but not too many OCN members that own it.

You want cool and quiet, you need noctua. Personally with a bit of work the true is great. I reco you find some cooler used.

Go with the Prolim Megatron, a TRUE, or the Thors Hammer.

If you don't want to lapp your cooler and simply want out of the box performance... go with Megatron or Thors Hammer (or Dark Knight if cost is an issue)

Skip the Noctua. A heatsink is only as quiet as the fan you put on it. There is NOTHING about the Noctua that makes it quiet except for the fan that comes packaged with it... and according to jason's review... Every cooler he tested performed better with the Noctua fan than the Nocuta... INCLUDING the Xiggy Dark Knight.

See:
http://www.overclock.net/air-cooling...h-u12p-vs.html

EDIT:
If you really are concerned about a quiet build... I suggest just getting a fan controller. That way you can use high speed fans and silence them when you need to and run them full blast when appropriate.
