As was I - I've always suggested that the TRUE was better when all out performance was desired, whereas the IFX-14 would be better for those who desired more silent operation.

I actually ended up reseating the Megatron after the first run-through as the results were identical to the IFX-14. The spread on the first run was fine, and the second run through gave the exact same results.

The buyer of my Thermalright package is actually going to be comparing the IFX-14 directly with the TRUE. Not sure if he's going to be doing a write up but if he is, I'm definitely looking forward to it.

+1 rep but I heard you're not supposed to lap the megahalem.

All heatsink manufacturers advise against lapping and always note that it voids the warranty. They also tend to make the heatsink slightly concave to accommodate CPU IHS's convexity. Although, the Megahalem was reasonably flat, the base was still a little concave and rough. My CPU was already lapped, so the concave base of the heatsink would not have made proper contact with my flat CPU.

That said, two perfectly flat surfaces always make better contact than a concave surface mated with a convex one. CPU IHS and heatsink lapping, if done properly, almost always drops temps

Well since it's able to have 3 fans, can you test the IFX with 3 fans to see if there is any improvement?

At this point I can't as I sold the IFX-14 shortly after the test. Sadly not made of money and couldn't justify hanging onto it. I have personally tested the IFX-14 with 2 vs 3 fans however and can report my findings. There was absolutely no difference between two 120x38s and three, most likely due to the high static pressure. I did see a 2-3C difference between two 120x25s and three though.

I thought the optimus-prime would run better with higher pressure fans. Because it has a lot of fin depth to get through? Am i right?

Yes i know, a 1000Watt PSU is overkill. But you have to ask yourself, what if?

If your awesome, copy and paste this into your signature.

That's correct and my test proves it to be true. The difference between the low static pressure of 120x25s and high static pressure of 120x38s was quite significant whether in push or push/pull config. If you have the money, it's definitely worth pairing megatron with a 120x38 (san ace, panaflo, or ultra kaze), but if you don't, push/pull 120x25s definitely gave better temps than a single 120x25.

Hope that helps

Sorry, I don;t mean to resurrect an old review, but I could not help notice that you did not use the rear heat sync for the IFX-14 test. For those that do not have this cooler or have seen the added rear heat sync, I have added an attachment.

Why did you not use that in your test?

No worries on the bump.... the thread is still quite relevant today, and your post is on topic.

That said:
I did actually use it. You can see it in the two below pictures. In my experience however, the backside cooler makes 0 difference in CPU temperatures... it might help keep the motherboard itself cooler, but it's my belief that it's more aesthetic than anything
