So this solution bolts through using the backplate already on the motherboard?

And are all the Xigmatek mounting systems the same (for the range of coolers) I might want this done for a HDT-S1284EE.

I am interested, btw.

haha.. yeap. in any case, brass is about 2x more expensive than aluminum from where i'm getting it. with the thickness of the material at 1/8" either one will do very well for mounting force.

for the S1284... i'm not too sure on the size... if you could do some measurements for me, i could definitely tell you.

i'm not too sure what the backplate for the AM2 mobos are like so i can't really say?

EDIT: as i'm looking at the pictures online.. it doesn't seem to be the same size but i could be wrong. might i ask if you already have the 1284? from what i recall about it, is that the staggered layout of the heatpipes was actually detrimental to the performance in comparison to the 1283.

EDIT: Just looked at my side case fan. I don't know if it'll clear it mounting it the other way.

I guess if it's not expensive or anything, I can make it work.

whoops, didn't see your edit until now..

i was actually initially asked to do a TRUE but its actually quite complicated with that cooler. i'm sure it can be done... but it'll take time to figure out a good way of doing it.

As far as the backplate goes, most high-end AM2/AM2+ motherboards come with one pre-installed to reinforce the CPU socket area.

And I'm not too knowledgeable on these HDT coolers so I'm not exactly sure of the performance difference between the 1283 & 1284. I spose that this wouldn't be too hard to do with any cooler, though. Like you said, all you need are the measurements.

W00t, you should appeal to AM2 Farmers If I ever make a 9800GX2 farm I'd get one (brass)

does the backplate has screws sticking out of the other side of the mobo? if it does, then i would say you're in good shape. my only problem there would be the thumb nuts. if its 6-32 sizing for the rod/screw then its not a problem at all.

tbh, all i remember was that the 1284 was a let down compared to the 1283.

what do you mean AM2 farmers? and why would you only get one if you had GX2s? its late and i'm not thinking too clearly.

Here is the stock mounting bracket from my Asus. The backplate is actually from the enzotech one on my mobo, just left the stock backplate cause I liked how it looked in comparison.

The backplate is internally threaded and the bracket screws onto it.

EDIT:
