Am I going to have clearance issues with a Scythe Mugen 2?

No clearance issues assuming you don't use tall RAM like Corsair Dominators or G.Skill Pi's
(but even if you do plan on using tall RAM, I don't think you'll have an issue. The Mugen 2 can mount a fan on any side) It's a very good value. Go for it.

Worst-case scenario about the ram is to use slot 2/4 right? No problems there but its the motherboard clearance I'm worried about, especially with the fan in the way.

get a sunbeam core contact freezer. its 30 bucks and it keeps my 720 be at 49 under load with 3.83ghz overclock.
IT also kept my other rig e8500 at 55degrees under load with a 4.35ghz overclock plus im using this cooler in an antec 300 and it fits well. i definately reccomend it |

I lost the link for the big list. It was a huge cooler round-up with temperature and db for each cooler.

its not a pushpin it has a weird plastic tension bracket and you attach that through the 775 holes and mount the cpu on there
its not a push pin but its a pain to install. But once its installed your golden it will stay there and cool off the cpu like magic and under 30 dollars. |

I am also running a antec 300 case and my temp's never rise above 43'c under max burn in prime 95 with 1.5vcore. The Mugen-2 has very good performance, but as others have mentioned its super wide, however, you can mount the fan on ANY side of the HSF so it makes no difference (I had a 1'c increase having the fan blow out the top rather than right to left and out the back)

I would imagine that it performs slightly worse than the Mugen 2 though, since the Mugen 2 is so close to the TRUE EDIT: The Coolermaster Z600 is also a nice choice if you want to use quiet fans or no fan. It's pretty darn big though. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835103047 The Noctua NH-U12P is also a very popular high performance cooler http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835608002 Coolermaster V8 is very good http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835103055 Thor's hammer (Needs a fan though) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835233032 ...really, the Antec 300 can have pretty much any air cooler no prob AFAIK

You may want to have a look at this thread for some of the simple mods to get the best out of mugen2: http://www.overclock.net/6241553-post1.html
I reduced about 10-12C by doing those mods. I should add that mugen2 is an excellent cooler!
