The heat sink for the 720be is not good at all. I didn't even feel comfortable running at stock speeds with the thing.

I've heard that temps for Phenom II's are pretty good even with the stock chunk of aluminum

I mean the temps were under what its rated to handle. But when I get up to the 50c I don't feel that easy. I could not run prime at stock speed with the stock heat sink. I turned it off before it got to 60c. It just never stopped. Granted my room is pretty warm but not that hot. Running Far cry 2 at stock speed the temp would rise to around 50c to 51c. I feel much better on the mugen 2 when play far cry 2 it never goes above 38c and prime doesn't push it above 46c.(thats a 8 hour prime too)

955 stock cooler > :turd: > 720 stock cooler.
![]() But yeah, basically, that 955 cooler is MUCH better. Go for it; not only will you see a great improvement in your temperatures, but it's for free!

I have a hunk-of-aluminum cooler too but I have a Windsor X2 5200, so I wasn't expecting more; a black-edition Phenom II with the hunk-of-aluminum? Pretty sad.

With good airflow and rather cool room temps, my 720 never went above 48c with stock hsf and idled at 28c, but that was just when I tested it for comparison.

meh the 720 is kind of a budget CPU. It isnt exactly their top end silicon. Not only that id rather get a lame stock hunk of aluminum and pay less leaving more money for a decent aftermarket version. The 955be cooler is worlds better then the 720 cooler, but cant compete with a decent xiggy of course.
