just an update guys, i have now installed it and it know idles at about 43 deg whereas before it idled at about 48 deg. also the fan spins alot faster on this one at 6617 rpm which is really loud but hey, the old one used to spin at about 5500rpm, but it runs cooler so it doesnt matter. once again thanks for the help and heres some comparison pics of the heatsinks for anyone thats interested

Think you got enough dust on that 720 stock cooler?

You could probably have improved your temperatures a little bit just by cleaning it off.

i allways tought that BE cpus come without any cooler. BE are made for OC. an who on earth is seriously OCing with stock cooler?

lol, theres not that much dust on there, is there (i have nothing to compare it to, apart from my old comp which got really, and i mean REALLY dusty lol)? theres some on the fan but the heatsink hasnt got that much on there and i have had it for just over a month and i dont think the temp changed much

they used to come without one, but i suppose they started including them because not everybody wants to overclock (like me )

For black editions,
In the product code, look for "WOF"
That stands for "Without fan"

If it doesn't have that in the product code, it comes with a stock cooler.

If you can't find the prodcut code, just remember that only K8 black editions don't come with heatsinks
(Such as Athlon X2 5000+, 5400+, and 6400+)

Are you using that stock thermal pate that comes pre-applied as a film on the bottom of the heatsink? I would definitely recommend against that. You will probably see a significant drop in temps if you put some OCZ freeze on that thing. It's a very cheap way to get a performance boost.

yes m8 i am using pre applied thermal paste, could you estimate how many degrees i would lose with that OCZ freeze?

I'm using my 9950+ cooler on my 5600+ lol.

These heatsinks aren't that bad.
