I have a similarly setup rig (see signature rig below) and I've done a bit of looking around on this issue as I thought myself to be in a similar situation. My idle temps were rather high IMO at 43C, what I failed to see was that my ambient temperature was 27C. I came to find out that a 13-15C difference was normal for my cooler. My ambient naturally started to rise given where I had placed my case (under a desk w/ just 1 of 6 sides open ), so naturally my operating temperatures followed. After lapping my heatsink, I finally got an idle temp of 41C at this time, the AS5 hasn't fully cured so I'll see what it is later.

I reapplied the AS5 a couple of times and cleaned up each time using 100% acetone (nail polish remover) and still had little luck until I lapped my HDT-S1283. I kept a rather lengthy in depth log as to what I had done (link) if you want to check it out.

DuckYy may have the right idea, I don't think that your Arctic Cooling cooler may be enough for the 955BE (it's a 125W cpu when at 100% ). Anything more serious, which I assume is why you got the M4A79T Deluxe, and you need a heck of a lot more cooling. I'd suggest getting any of the following coolers, Xigmatek Dark Knight, Scythe Mugen 2, or Prolimatech Meganalhem, they all rate very highly on various review sites. As a final thing, especially if your rear fan lines up with your cooler, get a retention mount adapter kit (Prolimatech makes one that I know of, just google it).

I hope I have been of some help to you. Good Luck.

All right..btw..read the thermal application guide

"If you put it on, then take it off, you should re-apply the paste."

Guess I really gotta' do it now..still don't think that's the reason though...

Here goes another try..

Thanks for the info. Was really looking forward to seeing with a similar setup. I was ready to pull my hair out O_O..

I'm gonna' try reapplying the thermal paste 1 more time though..I just emailed newegg..gonna' see if they'll accept my cooler back so I can get a better one...but now that I'm buying a new cooler...are those 3 coolers the best there is?

atm, I want the best cooler possible because I don't exactly want to go water cooling..so if that means getting a really good(and partly expensive cooler) is the way to go then so be it.

If those coolers( 40 bucks or so?) are really good and cool, then great, I'll get one immediately.

The Black Knight seems to be a favorite though I've heard some about the other two. Which performs best?

the 955 runs hot yes, the cpu fan on the other hand maxed out on my ex955 rig @ 5400 RPM and most of the time i would hit idle temps of mid 50's, i decided to go for water since down the road looking for ocing you ll prolly need it

good watercooling kit starts at 202 dollars, and is easy to assemble...

Ive got a 955 with a Megahalems on it, stays under 50C with a full load at 3.7GHz So if money isnt a problem Id go with a Megahalems as the mounting kit and shipping will push the cost to about $100

Idle: 33C
Load: 48-49C

Edit: but do note ive also got it setup with a push pull not just a standard one fan.

Dark Knight is your best bet, unless your willing to shell out more for THE best
http://www.crazypc.com/products/prol...em-508600.html
Add a Scythe fan to that for a final cost of around $80 :P

Dark Knight should be fine though

So, Megahalems, Dark Knight or Mugen 2. All hunks of metal, but I think Simca's choice, Dark Knight seems the best performance and value.

Overclocked to 3350mhz, and using prime95 torture test, the hottest I got was 52C, this is stable.
Room temp is 21.7C
Motherboard 41C
All Cores Min 35C @ idle (as of today)
All Cores Max 57C @ 100% (as of today)
I'm using a Coolermaster V8, which is a phenomenal cooler imo.
I dont have my mb in a case, but on top of the box it came in (easy access)
I just wish the fan in this cooler would run at a higher rpm, or have higher CFM (amount of air moved)
The chip I have in their now is the 940BE lapped, so applying the thermal paste with a razor is very easy, and very even.

I would suggest you do some research and see if lapping would be something to consider, especially since you have those kind of temps whilst in the case.

Side note, it does look like your case needs some better air flow, find you some good 120mm 100CFM (at least) fans to stick into your case, with a Dark knight, V8, or a T.R.U.E (if any fit) cooler. That should help a whole lot.

What most people have said so far is accurate; while the freezer is a great value cooler it does not handle quad-core setups very well. Best way to lower temps without buying a new cooler would be to mount the HSF optimally and reapply TIM as you've been trying, in addition to cable management/case modding/fan arrangement.

Assuming you still need to drop temps further, here's a list of AM2 coolers ordered in terms of performance, that I've had experience with:

Prolimatech Megahalems: Needs the purchase of a separate am2/3 backplate, can mount either horizontal or vertical orientation. Comes with no fans. Fan clips are thickness specific, so you cannot use the 120x25 clips on 120x38mm fans etc.

(Thermalright) TRUE: Depending on the package you purchase, it may come with a am2/3 backplate, or you may need to purchase one separately. Only mounts horizontally unless you mod it. Some package variations come with a fan, others do not.

Noctua NH-U12P: Mounts either horizontally or vertically, comes with a AM2/3 backplate and a lowspeed, ultra quiet fan. For lower temps you'd probably have to replace the fan, but its still a nice addition to have one.

Xigmatek Dark Knight: Mounts horizontally, only comes with a AM2/3 backplate, comes with a mid-range fan.

Sunbeam Core-Contact Freezer: Allows horizontal or vertical mounting, comes with a AM2/AM3 backplate, comes with a low-range fan.

That list is more or less also ordered in terms of price, however that will vary depending on your region/store availability. The Prolimatech and TRUE are more or less equal in performance, and the NH-U12P and Dark Knight are more or less equal in performance. Personally all are fine coolers. If you are willing to fork out the cash however, the prolimatech megahalems is one very awesome cooler. Performance is only slighty better/equal to the true, however the mounting system is a joy to use. I get a max load of 48 degrees with 1.52v, and I'm sure it could be better with some proper TIM application! (no time to readjust atm, have to wait till finals are over).

Hope that helps, and good luck with lowering your temps and any purchases you decide to make!
