I'm curious what your temps are now with the Mugen 2.

Hello All,
Maybe the thermal paste needed to "break-in". The idel temp is now at 43c and max load at 55c on stock cooling. Does this sound about right or is there someting wrong with the cpu? It seems a little high still for stock speed. It's not overclocked. Rob |

You're right, Tri-cores run considerably cooler than the quads. That's about what I got at stock probably. A lot of things can affect temps.

Hey guys... been reading this thread and I've found it all very interesting. I find my self currently in the same situation as the OP. I am running a PII 940BE with a Zalman 9500 and am running into some unfortunate problems...
At stock speeds, the 9500 cools no problem, I'm looking at around 35'c idle and roughly 55'c full load. Now, as soon as I increase the voltage on this baby even the slightest bit, I'm seeing temps go up 42'c idle / 61'c load. This is not acceptable! My previous CPU which was an FX-62, cooled extremely well with the 9500 in my current case. At 3.2ghz, I was seeing only 57'c at full load and thats with the voltage at 1.515v. I do understand that these quad-cores are a whole new breed of proc, but are they really putting out that much more heat? I recently re-applied my tim(AS5) and noticed no change (I know that it was applied as well as possible) and also, I should mention that my Zalman is lapped 400/600/800/1000/1500grit + wadding polish. Here is a pic of my current setup... ![]() Only thing you dont see here is that in the front of the case, there is a 120mm lined up perfectly with the CPU and rear-exhaust, and also a 80mm at the bottom-front blowing on the 2 HDD's. There is also a pci-slot exhaust blower at the very bottom underneath the soundcard. My ambient case temp is around 25'c, and my mobo sensor near the pwm is reading usually 4'c higher than ambient. Now, I recently opened her up and felt the Zalman while the CPU was under full-load (and overclocked to 3.5ghz @ 1.495v) and that thing was nearly untouchable. Had I kept my hand on it I definetly would have been burned. I know that it is cooling, but I think it has reached its maximum as far as its ability to expel heat. So, I too am looking for that "perfect cooler". I want/need one that is going to blow air horizontally to stay in line with my current setup. The only other real requirement is that it is socket AM2 compatible and I'd like the fan to have a 4-pin connector if possible; or I could always just buy a fan with 4-pin. Also, I'd like to replace the case fans with higher cfm models too. Most important to replace would be the front 120mm intake and the 120mm exhaust. I dont know how much my setup differs from the OP, but are all your recommendations the same? I have roughly $100 to work with for HS/F and case fans, but if needbe the case fans can wait until next week to be ordered.

Here is what I'm currently looking at.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118051 Seems kind of pricey, but I've read good things thus far on this thing, and I am a fan of Zalman. I have had 2 other Zalman coolers and have been happy with them both. What do you guys think???
