I recently replaced my stock v8 fan with a 110cfm silverstone fan. My cpu temps did not decrease or increase (39-40 degrees at idle, oc'd to 3.7ghz). I've tried re-applying the thermal paste (AS5) and still no luck. Weird thing is no matter what I adjust my fan speed at, the cpu doesnt not seem to be affected at all. Is there something wrong with the cpu or should i change out the rear case fan to something faster? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

AS5 has a curing time. So leave your setup as is for a few weeks. If the temps don't change after that then post back. Hope this helps.

Its been about 3 weeks already. Isnt that long enough for the paste to cure?

yeah thats pleanty, maybe its just hitting its maximum cooling already "heat pipes can only move so much heat with air alone" so really only option you have now is lapping witch i highly recomend "but havent done myself" im going to this weekend

You can't really expect any real temperature changes because you switched to a more powerful fan. I mean maybe if you got a pair of deltas or kaze in push/pull.

so you're saying my cpu temps wouldnt go any lower no matter what kinda fan i put in the v8? if thats the case, then i wasted 20 bucks on a useless fan.

That silverstone could push more or less air in my case for all I know. But that doesn't mean temps would drop. You mentioned changing out a rear fan or something, but now I am curious, how is the airflow in your case?

Hold on. Some of the Phenom II's have had trouble with reporting their temps to programs. My 940 doesn't report right now, either. Take a look at this thread: http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/51...emps-help.html

Im thinking that the rear fan is not pulling air out fast enough to keep up with the silverstone fan. There might be some kind of air friction between the two fans causing the heat to stay in the heatsink. Just a wild guess.
