You could also make a shroud out of plastic or cardboard and not have to waste a fan.

How were your temps before and after this? I'm interested as I have the same problem with my Xigmatek Nepartak not being oriented the ideal way (the fan is blowing air towards the PSU).

I laughed when I saw the pliers holding the drill bit. Almost what I had to do to get the screws into the backplate mount as well. I bought hex screws though with rigged heads so I could thumb them down. Then I used an allen wrench that was just short of hitting the bottom heatsink plate to tighten them down.
Coming from a fellow custom mount/Xiggy user I'd recommend a push/pull setup with the tape mod. It really helps for temps.
