I recently put together a simple pc for home use. Nothing fancy-no big gaming rig.
__________________E8400 EP45-UD3LR 2x2g's RAM Noctua HSF and Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer CM Sniper XP Pro w/SP3 I mentioned in a thread here that my cpu core temps were 42 & 33 at idle using the Noctua. Running Intel Burn Test V2 brought the temps to within 1 or 2 degrees of each other with no high temps recorded. Since then I changed my cooler to the Sunbeam. I used the TX2 TIM included with the package. Installed it very carefully following the directions. Now my temps are 42 & 33 Celsius at idle. Running the Intel Burn Test raises the temps about 2 degrees higher than the same test with the Noctua. My ambient room temp is about 26.6C. Both coolers have the fans running on high. Wiring is not blocking air flow. Why are my temps this high? Do I need to worry about it? And why is the Sunbeam not showing lower temps than the Noctua? Thanks. H

Yeah those temps are a little weird. Maybe the surface of your E8400 is causing the problems and lapping it might help.

I thought that the Noctua was a better heatsink than the CCF?

It's definitely better on Intel systems since the IHS of Intel CPU's is so small and doesn't contact all the heatpipes

Probably a stuck sensor.
Mine idle at 41°c and barely budge after hours of stressing.
