i was curious about that too for all cases and HSFs as well
is airflow better and cooler for CPU if directed toward the rear exhaust or upper exhaust

what's your temp readings on each of them cross_fire?

pointing toward the back is always the best, and it looks wonky when mounted the other way

From what I've seen is the traditional way is about 2-4*C cooler pointing towards the rear exhaust and not the top exhaust.

As long as the air keeps moving that is the most important. But I would do a test both ways. Being a tower it seems like mounting it pointing up would utilize the pipes more efficiently.

Hi.

I would install the cooler with the airflow directed vertically since the case has a ginormous top-side exhaust.

Also, heat pipes are not effected by orientation so that will not be a factor.

When it comes to airflow having a uni-directional airflow through the case is a major contributing factor. If you were to have a fan mounted in the drive bays (Kaze-style) then it might be better the have the cooler directed toward the rear-side of the case.

I was doing a bit of research about this same question yesterday. The 200mm fan, on high, pushes something like 130cfm, which is far more than the rear fan can pull on this particular case.

http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2522.html

that's going by the numbers there, since they don't seem to be listed on Antec's site anywhere.

My Megahalem is pointed up, since it won't fit with my RAM otherwise on this particular mobo. At 3.6ghz on a q9450, and ambients between 28-30 most of the time, I haven't seen an individual core temp higher than 56 (torture testing with p95) at any point thus far, with idle being around 39-40.
