It's not hard to spread at all, but ya don't need to spread it anyway.

Use the 2 line method, seems to work best.

Link here shows you how.

Using IC Diamond here, I noticed about ~4ºC drop in load temps, give or take.

These are all the wrong way of applying it with your setup, don't do this.

You have an HDT cooler, so you need to fill in the cracks of your heatsink with a little bit of OCZ Freeze first, then apply two small lines of it to the silver colored parts of the heatsink in between the heatpipes. Then just bolt it on to the CPU and you're done! Make sure not to make the lines too thick though, too much thermal paste and your temps will actually go up.

Yup, QFT.

Also, why does OCN love OCZ freeze and Xtreme Systems loves MX-2?

They are both awesome, within about a degree of each other. It has been shown that OCZ Freeze performs slightly better though, so we use it .

Edit: Actually, it's even better than I thought. Check this out:

Shin Etsu X-23 is extremely good too but between AS5 and OCZ Freeze, OCZ Freeze is the best way to go.
