Ok, so in the summer, my office room is pretty hot, and my q6600 gets hot, about 42 degrees idle, on stock clock settings. I upgraded my case to get some better airflow, but it's still getting pretty hot, so I was wondering, if I were to get a Prolimatech Megahalems with a push pull ultra kaze, how much would it lower my temps?
And if not, would my only other option to be to go water?

ARE you using OCZ Freeze, MX-2, or IC diamond thermal compound?

Im using AS5, but based on the temperature differences between them, it wouldn't make a significant decrease.

Won't really help idle that much if your ambient temp is what is getting higher. A better cooler will only bring you closer to your ambient unless you go TEC/Phase/etc.

The difference in temps between a mid-range watercooling setup and a Megahalems is maybe a few degrees. Not really worth it imo.

If I were to go water, the setup would be this
Enzotech SCW.A block XSPC RX360 radiator with High speed yate loons T-line MCP655 pump. Between that and the megahalems, how much of a temperature decrease would you expect? Do you think it would do wonders on my load temps, 'cause right now, when Im playing call of duty, my cpu hits in the 60's

If you go for a mid-range watercooling system like that, you'll definitely notice better load temps, but you should probably get the parts used. It'd be much easier to go with the megahalem though obviously.

You are going to have trouble battling temps in a hot room, period. Your best option is to do what I do and keep the room at a nice 58-60 degrees Fahrenheit with a nice 10,000 BTU air conditioner. I would rather spend a couple hundred dollars on an AC that will keep ME cool too than to spend it on expensive and irritating watercooling setups. With the AC keeping the room cool, air cooling works a lot better. You may punch yourself in the face when the electric bill shows up, but hey, going to WCing is going to pull a bunch of juice too.

Quote:
Watercooling is going to draw off the most heat and give you the lowest delta between idle and load temperatures. It is also the most expensive solution, ranging a couple hundred for a cheap system to several hundred for a custom one. There's also more risk involved with the possibility of a leak destroying your entire system if you are not careful. There's more maintenance than just blowing dust out, you have to ensure no algae/slime grows in your coolant like a nasty old car radiator. There are single purpose (ie CPU or GPU) WC solutions out there, but often times they are not much better than air cooling.![]() I'm not trying to talk you out of WC, I'm just trying to make you aware that there is a lot more involved with WC than most people think. Whatever you choose to do, good luck and may it work the best for you.

I dunno, the Megahalem is a beast. I doubt he would get much better temps, and he would be spending 4x as much.
