I'd go for the Zalman 9500, the V8 is just too big.

My lapped V8 kept my lapped qx6850 21*C at idle in bios. 10 minutes before my board died. never got to stress it.

The Zalman is crap, so out of those 2 the V8 is better.

V8 was a good cooler, I recently replaced it with water, but never regretted getting it. Sitting on my desk right now while I try to find what to do with it, lol.

The Scythe Mugen 2 is a much better cooler than the dark knight, it is only bad if you have tall RAM, or would prefer the pushpin method. Check out the Mugen 2 club & info center, its in my signature. Go with the Mugen 2, it rivals an unlapped true, and is only $36

It depends on what you're trying to cool with it. I had a Zalman 9500 on my e6420 and it was awesome - idle temps were about 35c and load temps were about 45c. The Zalman build quality is great and the bottom comes with a mirror finish.
I now have a Dark Knight for my Q9450, and I have to say that I'm underwhelmed with it. My idle temps are about 42c and load is 55c. Edit: To Leman's comparison, I'd say it's more like a 1977 Camaro vs. a 2001 Camaro. Both are decently high performance with one (the Zalman) being older technology but still running well. And, unlike a Pinto, it's not going to blow up when rear ended.

I think a lot of the DK recommendations are due to the Mugen 2 apparently being a b**** to install.
