You could just remove the entire motherboard to get under it couldn't you?

may come to this I would imagine...

only other way would find something to block or hold the backplate while you turn the screw so it doesn't move... this is why I love my case

A couple of drops of Crazy Glue from the back side of the mounting plate.
Let it dry for at least an hour or two then gently try to remove the screw.

only other thing I can think of would be to press a small flathead screwdriver or an icepick *carefully* down against wherever it's rotating against, if you can get to that, and try to slowly unscrew it. If that part is rotating, I'm thinking the backplate is probably hosed anyway.
