put a washer or something to allow more pressure to be on the cooler. Allows for better contact

3-8C? I highly doubt that. Maybe 1-2C at most. I can see 3-8C if you lap and pressure mod it. The pressure mod alone doesn't do that much.

well thats according to the dude with with giant washer.. i personally dropped about 6c

i lapped the cpu , lapped the true, and just used a penny, i also tried a dime , washer , nickle , half dollar , penny worked the best.

(stock true unlapped no pressue unlapped chip) went from 68c at linx load w/ cured as5 @ 4.0ghz 1.216v

(everything lapped w/ pressure) to 62c. with uncured as5. @ 4.0ghz 1.216v

The lapping is what makes most of the difference, not the pressure mod.

completely depends on the application it's used in. There are too many variables to compute to just make a blanket statement of "what is the optimal cooler/fan to use." The Mega mostly kicks butt because it's consistent, easy to install, rugged, requires virtually no work (generally doesn't need to be lapped to be functional) and competes with all the top coolers, usually for a smaller or equal price.

From the temps I've gathered (informally) on the board, a Mega is equal to, or better than a lapped TRUE the vast majority of the time for less cost and less hassle.
