From the temps I've gathered (informally) on the board, a Mega is equal to, or better than a lapped TRUE the vast majority of the time for less cost and less hassle.
Megahalem is the best cooler out there in all stock comparisons and in all comparisons where equal modding was done to all it still leads. It costs less than the TRUE, unless you mount on an AM3 platform like I did my total for everything was like 110.

But on topic, yes you should setup a push pull system as well as using OCZ Freeze instead of what you have on there, the OCZ Freeze (like Sloth said) has no set time and can be easily applied and removed. if you have to reseat the heatsink ever.

Not an ideal comparison but my 955BE at 3.7 (4.0 when i get more time) peaks at 48C full load with the system running the fan speeds below 50%

All said, I got mine for $103 with shipping (AM3 adapter, Megahalems, Scythe Slipstream, and Cooler Master 110cfm blue LED for my case) at SVC.com. I'm reading in the forums here that the Scythe Slipstream (110cfm @ 1900rpm) isn't up to the job with Megahalems. Guess I'll replace it later with a better pair of fans, I'll shroud them even .

I did have to modify the adapter (ie cut some of it with a Dremel and reamer) since it wouldn't clear the cpu socket on the lever arm side. I thought that it was interesting how after install it floated instead of being solid like the OEM.

Gah, 48C!!! I'm lucky to get 56C @ 26C ambient at 3.6GHz, system fans running speed doesn't seem to make that much of a difference . Before you mention TIMs, check out the link in my sig and you'll know why I use AS5 (always have) using the Prolimatech directions for TIM application.

Full load LinX?

Prime95 here, not even touching 65 C.

Regardless, i'm off to OC a bit more, hehe.

Edit;

ok i've got a push pull thing going on here, Intel HSF on the top, hehe, and it's still 70C load.. Linpack..

Prime95, Blend

CPU - 45 C
Cores: around 55

Sounds reasonable.

Like it says in my sigrig, i used OCZ Freeze instead of AS5, i even asked which i should use in a thread a while back. Did it with the grain of rice method where you lay a line the size of a small grain of rice in the center and let the pressure from the retention mechanism clamping the base of the Heatsink down spread the TIM.

My 2 fans are controlled by the system not a fan controller is what I meant to say. Also I got 1200RPM Scythe fans which are weaker than the 1900rpms you got because I wanted as much CFM I could with as little noise as possible as well as not spending a whole lot. The only noise from my rig are the reference coolers on the 4890s.

Lastly, My case probably has better airflow than yours as well.

As far as TIM goes, with the quality of OCZ Freeze, AS5, and IC7 makes them all comparable (all 3 hit within 1C of each other when scientifically tested, see the link in my sig).

The fans push-pull configuration and your case are where I believe you have me beat cooling wise, my single fan is controlled by my system (~1600rpm all the time).

I'm curious what your ambient was, who knows, I might be able to come close with a matching ambient (mines 80F/26C).

8 hours on OCCT, medium data set, normal priority.

The stock TIM that comes with the Megahalem has been shown to perform just as well as AS5 if not better lol. You shouldn't have wasted your money on a tube. Either way, OCZ Freeze should give you a small temp drop.

I have a couple of syringes on hand and have been using them as it goes. If I have to try another TIM, I'd give Shin-Etsu MicroSi G751 a try, not only is it cheaper but it is rated the best out of all TIMs at this time.
