so i was bored and decided to get a new case, mobo and cpu cooler, and the one i happened to grab was a Arctic Cooling Freezer Extreme rev2.
__________________so i slap it all together, get it all running nice nice, and start to check temps at the cpu's stock 2ghz before i go oc'ing it. with the freezer blowing toward the back of the case, directly into another 12cm exhuast fan, at idle i was getting around 37-40c (ambiant was around 24c). at 100% stressed with orthos, it immediaty jumped to 65, and climbed rapidly to 80 within 30odd secs, so i stoped it. k, so that sucks, but theN i decide to experiment. unfortunatly i changed a couple things at once, so i can't say what had what affect. but anyways here what i changed. i rotated the cooler 90deg, so it blows towards the bottom of the case. i replaced the pre-applied t-paste with some decent stuff (need to be done anyways due to moving teh cooler) and i ripped the plastic covers off the sides of the tower. they kinda hold the fan in, but it still sits in there just fine, and is still dead silent. now with the chip a stock 2.0ghz. idle 24-25c, 100% on orthos (35ish) OC'd to 3.0ghz idle 32c ish, 100% on orthos 52 was the highest it hit, after 30-40min. these numbers are from memory, but i'll post the logs when i get home. i just found it interesting that a little tweaking with position and simple modification could take the cooler from being a bag of crap, to actually holding it's own.
