Hey guys,
__________________Just built my rig yesterday: - AMD Phenom 2 X4 955 BE Processor - 6gb DDR1600 Patriot Viper Ram - 250gb Seagate Barracude HD - MSI 790FX-GD70 Motherboard - Radeon 4870 Video Card - Corsair 750 watt power supply - NZXT Tempest Case I'm having an issue with keeping a stable CPU temperature while just surfing the internet. I'm running between 38*C and 45*C with 20% load. This is a problem. I do live in Arizona, so the desert climate does have something to do with how warm my room gets at times. I had the Xigmatek Dark Knight cooler and was going to install it but it would block my first ram slot. So I had to rock the stock heatsink for the time being. Should I go ahead and throw the Dark Knight on there and give up the 1st Ram slot, or continue to be hesitant on which programs I run? Or any other suggestions...I'm pretty much open to anything. Thanks guys and gals! Update: Under 40% load I'm at 47*C-50*C

Those temps are fine - actually pretty good, considering it's with stock cooling.
__________________With my DK and Artic Silver 5 I'm idling at 38-40c in a fairly hot and humid upstairs summer room (at least 78 degrees F). Anyways, what's wrong with giving up your 1st RAM slot? Do you use them all or something? Edit: Didn't read closely into your 40% load temperatures. Those are quite high. With Prime95 running I max out at around 48c. My stock AMD cooler maxed out at around 58-60. I'd install the DK.

Those temps aren't too bad, reapplying the thermal paste might help but overall those temps aren't going to harm the chip.
What are your 100% load temps?

It shouldn't have ANY drop in performance UNLESS your mobo requires it for dual channel. Usually you can use 1 + 2, or 3 + 4, or sometimes 2 + 4 and 1 + 3.

Appears that my computer may have just acted up since it was the first boot. Ordered the bracket so I can mount my Dark Knight anyhow, should help a little bit at least.

Of course not. You have 2 sticks and three other slots to choose from. Pick the ones that will allow for dual-channel mode and you'll be dandy.

however being able to mount the Dark Knight with a $3 bracket should fix all the problems.
