Anyone got any more advice?

I gotta clear this up
again? Argh. OK, here's how it works. Petras Tech Shop orders Yates DIRECTLY from Yate Loon, and as such, only stock fans made ENTIRELY by Yate Loon. Every other shop (rumor went around some time ago that Jab-Tech was going to start ordering directly from Yate Loon but to my knowledge they never did
Update: they finally did) uses a middleman that builds Yates out of lower-quality parts. They're still Yate Loons, but they're "cheap" Yates; they don't undervolt as well and their static pressure isn't as good. Back when "cheap" Yates started appearing on the market, you could tell them apart from pure-Yate-made Yates (sounds funny to say) just by looking at them, but now you actually have to open them and look at the motors and bearings. Medium- and low-speed Yates made by middlemen are built with smaller motors, but high-speed Yates are made with the same size motor whether a middleman pieced it together or Yate Loon. Thing is, it's a lower-quality motor coming from the middleman to save money in the long run. As such, it doesn't undervolt as well as a "pure" Yate Loon. LATER EDIT: Confirmed in
this thread that smaller motors are being used by middlemen in even the high-speed Yates.
Short answer is, Petras stocks higher quality Yate Loons and everyone else's (except where noted) are lower quality. There's no such thing as a "fake" Yate Loon. If you can't spend that much, and don't have a fan controller, you won't notice a difference wherever you get it. Otherwise, get Yate Loons from Petras.
LATE EDIT:
I'd like to add that one of my contacts gave Yate Loon a call and asked about suppliers that ordered directly from them. I wasn't given full details but I do know he was told that
Aquatuning does, in fact, order directly from Yate Loon, and they (Aquatuning) ship internationally (late update; Aquatuning have expanded to include a US/Canada store with very reasonable shipping, and they use the same warehouse as the original .de store, so you get the same Yates). So for those overseas or anyone in the US willing to import from Germany, there is a confirmed second option (or just a confirmed source for those not in the US).
