Hey guys I just finished my i7 build but I am having bad luck with fans. First I got a couple Panaflos but couldn't fit them because of the ram clearance issues and than I went ahead and got a cooler master (http://www.frozencpu.com/products/69...-_1096CFM.html) and it would only spin at 680rpms the whole time. I tried setting it to manual max speed in the bios, tried plugging into different fan headers, and even plugged into my fan controller with no luck. It still spins at 680rpms even though it's minimum speed is 800 and max is 2500. So I came to the conclusion that I got a bad faulty fan which I need to exchange for something better. So I need your help picking the best 120mm x 25mm cpu fan for my Megahalems. I need something that's preferably below 40dbs and can push at least 90 +cfm I want something would good static pressure but unfortunately I can not fit 38mm fan on my cooler.

The Scythe Gentletyphoon fans have great noise/static pressure/rpm ratios, probably the best fan in terms of balancing noise and performance but they don't put out the CFM you require. You might want to consider some Scythe SFLEX G fans that run 1900RPM at like 75CFM. SFLEXs are very good fans with static pressure better than alot of the 90CFM fans.

Thanks, I just want something that will keep my i7 cool at 4.0ghz. Right now I have it sitting at 4.2 at 48 degrees but I can't even stress test it because that bastard only spins at 600rpms. I played Fallout and my temps go up by 3-4 degrees but fallout isn't really a good way to test.

Well my ambient temps are between 20 and 23C and my 1600RPM (SFF F SFLEXs) fans keep it below 80C at 4.2GHz. My chip seems to only be slightly better than average so a pair of SFLEX's or even one should keep your chip cool enough for 4GHz as long as ambient temps are under control.

A Silverstone SST-FM121B Fan would seem to fit your description, being 25mm in depth and moving 110CFM at 2400rpm, and is (just) below the 40db noise level you stated.
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/120mm...rpm-in-9-Blade! Alternatively, have you considered (if you have the room in your case) a push-pull fan system with one on each side of your megahalems, those solutions seem to offer better cooling results than a single fan setup.

Scythe Slipstreams are great. 1900rpm version seems like what you're looking for, 110cfm @ 37dba. It's sheer airflow will nullify any disadvantage pressure-wise. Two would be perfect since the Megatron is pretty wide, though.
