Default S-Flex+Gentle Typhoon+Noctua+RheobusExtreme=quiet & cool

Here's some shots of one of my recent fan upgrades of two computers.

All these shots are of the fans moving, including this one. My new Lumix is doing a great job of stopping their motion.

Why not use 2 of the GentleTyphoons for the cooler and have the 2 Noctuas as top exhaust? That'd work a little better. But that is an awesome shot of all the fans together.

Why 2 controllers, and where did you install the 2nd one? Why not just use a splitter for 2 fans per channel? The Rheobus Extreme can handle it easily.

OK here's a couple of shots of the other computer. Notice the S-Flex, Gentle Typhoon and Noctua fans all working together peaceably for the good of the system. Awesome.

In order for that to cool better I'd have to take on a pound of noise for an ounce of coolness. I'm shooting for low noise here because the location my computer is in sends whatever sound it makes right back at me and it's very annoying. And yeah that shot of the fans rocks.

those noctua fans on your heatsink are NF-P12's right ?

do you think using NF-S12 instead for the "pull" would make any difference ?

It would be slightly worse; noticeably worse on a thick-finned heatsink because the S12 has next to no static pressure (just look at its blade structure, I wouldn't even use it as a case fan!).

I'd totally put those GT's on the heatsink but I guess that's me, they just don't make that much sense as case fans.

Like Chunky said that fan has little static pressure and isn't great for that job but it might work some.

It's very quiet thanks to the fan controller of course. Easily the quietest fan is the Noctua. Two of the Noctuas are quieter than one S-Flex. Next is the Gentle Typhoon. Even though the S-Flex is last it's still quiet.

How so? The GTs have a ginormous rotor on them, like the S-Flex. The Noctuas don't have that. With a HS you have precious little real estate to waste on over-sized rotors, but that's not a problem at all when they are used as a case fan. The GTs physical make-up make them a poor choice for a HS IMO.
