what are the differences in the different percentages of the rubbing alcohols besides their obvious chemical concentration? ive got a bottle of 50% isopropyl alcohol sitting on my desk and the only other ingredient is "inactive" and its purified water, so will do this do the trick as decently as any other rubbing alchy?

I think the main difference is that there is more water in the solution so you must be more careful and wait longer for it to evaporate. And you'll have to use more to get the same clean... I use 70 some % and it works just fine for me. Chemistry majors feel free to chime in...

I'm not entirely sure what percentage the stuff I use is, but I use nail poilsh remover.
![]() It works fine for me, all the other 50% is is water, so you need to wait maybe a whole 5 seconds longer.

the alcohol is what is dissolving and removing the TIM. The water is just filler. More filler would translate to less effective removal of TIM.

Its fine to use, the other stuff just evaporates faster and cleans better which is good but not entirely needed. I usually just wipe it off with a rag, don't even wet it.

The less the concentration of alcohol, the more deposits that will be left behind. The cheapest stuff had always worked fine for me, but considering that 90% alcohol is literally PENNIES more expensive than the cheapest stuff, it is a good idea just to drop the $2 on the good stuff just to have it around. It does clean better, it does dry faster, and it does leave less residue behind.

You should be fine with 50%
Essentially, it will do the same thing as any other. I'd just clean it of with any cloth and go back a second time with a cloth you use to clean glases with (use alcohol both times of course)

Nice gl, let us know how it goes. Including temps! There's not much info about how good the 212+ is right now.

It should be alright, but I have always used 91% alky, it removes thermal paste quick, even the hard to remove IC Diamond 7.
