Hi guys,i m thinking of replacing my stock CPU cooler but i have no idea about HSFs.I use a Q9550 with mild O.C and this case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-189-_-Product(with one 120 fan front intake and one 120 back exhaust). So do i have to buy a cooler facing the side vent of the case for better temps?Or a cooler facing any direction will do the job?Any suggestion-advice is most welcome...

Alot of people like the Dark Knight for a budget cooler.
You want the cooler facing the exhaust fan for the best temps.

1) Welcome to OCN!
2) Click last link in my sig for Rules/Regs and to get your system info in your sig so we can help you better. 3) Click 1st link in my sig to learn all about Air Cooling...my and most OCN members suggestions for a CPU cooler are in there with pricing and many other specs. 4) When you find a cooler your interested in and it is popular there is most likely a club for it here on OCN. Use the search function top-right using the CPU name and you should find a lot of pictures for the orientation and what not. Good Luck!

Thanks guys...But i still don t get it.If i have 2 HSFs with identical specs and the only difference is that:
__________________A) one sucks fresh cold air from the side vent(like http://www.zalman.co.kr/ENG/product/...ad.asp?idx=168) B)the other one sucks the hot air that s already in the case(like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-005-_-Product) Although every new gr8 performing HSF is B type,an A type HSF wouldn t be better for my case? P.S Anyone know Zalman CNPS8700 LED CFM?Cause i can t find it...

Quote:
Your idea of "A) one sucks fresh cold air from the side vent" is actually wrong it will still pull air from inside your case. The "B" type fan is the new type of design due to the amount of surface area that design is beneficial for the new hotter CPU's being made today. The more surface area generally gives better cooling with respect to specific design of course. The Zalman you listed most likely won't get you a very good overclock for your processor without over heating.
