Default Hot 955BE Idle/Load Temps (Resolved: Corsair H50)

Hi, I built this system about a month ago and my CPU and Core temps have been considerably high (42C idle/63C load) at stock clock (3.2GHz). I'm using the stock Phenom II Cooler with the pre-applied TIM it came with.

I've been monitoring my temps constantly and haven't figured it out yet. I uploaded a screen to give you guys an example, my ambient temp is 22C. My system specs are below, thanks for any suggestions.

I would suggest a new CPU cooler if you plan to overclock...if not stick with stock but re-seat and apply different TIM. Suggestions for a CPU cooler or new TIM is all in my sticky guide (1st link in sig).

My guess is whoever installed your CPU didn't apply it properly or has too much/little TIM applied.

Best of luck to you and let us know how things go

Temps are ok, what is expected of stock. New TIM will help but a new cooler is the best option.

IMO, you should never use the pre-applied TIM, it does a really sub-par job compared to other after market brands.

Thanks for your replies guys, I appreciate it. I decided to install an aftermarket cooler, figured I'd use this Masscool 7WA001 I had laying around. You guys think it will do the job for my 955?

As for the thermal paste I ordered some Arctic Cooling MX-2 the other day, figured I'd go that route since the AC Accelero Twin Turbo did such a good job on cooling my GPU.

But what about that whack temperature reading on my CPU? Its reading 10C hotter then the cores! Should I pay attention to that or phase it out as a bad sensor? Thanks

I think it's normal that your CPU temp is 10C hotter than core temp, cause that's my case too. But your idle temps for either one is too high.

Yes my idle temps are high indeed and the sad part is that i'm running my system with the side panel off too, with it on it the CPU temp rises about 5C.

Once this AC MX-2 comes in i'm gonna swap out the stock cooler and apply it with my Masscool fan, hopefully i get some good results. I also ordered an extra 120mm Antec Clear TriCool 3spd Fan (Blue LED) for the side panel, that should bump it down a few degrees as well.

I'll post back with my results.

I was getting similar temps with the stock cooler on my 550BE when I first built the system. Tossed the stock cooler for a Sythe Angel B + Sythe fans throughout, idle temps now are up to 2C below ambient, ran Prime 95 this morning for 3hr 15mins at a peak temp of 42C at ambient of 28C. IMHO stock fans aren't worth the box they come in, good to see you have moved on to an after market model.

That is not possible. You can not have a heat producing component below ambient w/o "active" (TEC, Chiller, Phase) cooling.
