This is just plain wrong, "zomgiwin". Don't listen to ONE person telling you it won't work. You'll get slightly higher CFM using a shroud because the fan has the room to push more air. A shroud also reduces noise coming from the fan, it was very noticeable when I used mine.

Also, I got about a ~2C decrease in load temperatures after I installed my shroud. It's not huge but it's definitely SOMETHING. Push/pull with 38mm Panaflos is pretty overkill as it is though, I opted to go with just 1 120x38mm Panaflo and I'm glad I did, it is quieter and more effective than 2 80.5 CFM 120x25mm fans.

you're using a different cooler.
and it only makes sense (the points i said.)
the cooler is really designed to make deadspots obsolete.

and the using a lesser fan thing definately makes sense too, its not nearly as dense (fin spacing) as your dinosaur TRUE.

Dinosaur TRUE? Do you really think that the Megahalems is that much better? Have you ever looked at comparison tests with coolers? The Megahalems is definitely better *out of the box*, but it wasn't available when I bought my "dinosaur TRUE". With the modifications I've done to it, I bet my TRUE comes within 1-2C of a stock Megahalems.

The fact is, I bet there would be at least a noticeable difference in noise, as the fan isn't so close to the heatsink and makes less noise from turbulence. I'm a big fan of shrouds for a reason.

Interesting. a ~2C drop helps, given how cheap this mod can be done.

Thank you both for the info. I will do a push pull config on Mega with San Aces. I will prolly use a shroud only for the frontal fan. So FAN|Heatsink|Shroud(25mm)+Fan <-- Front Case right?

I believe in overkill...just to make sure.

That'd be the correct setup, Raiden. Keep in mind my ~2C drop was only with a single 120x38 Panaflo, so you might not get as noticeable of a difference. I'd definitely be interested in finding out your results!

Also, poked around a little bit for some heatsink comparisons, here's the first one I found:

Wow, my dinosaur beat the Megahalems!

Based on that graph...then ja. But based off the experience and feedback here from OCN members, the Megahalems is betterz.
Also, it has been stated and proven that a 38mm with high static pressure (ie Panaflo, Delta, San Ace) on a Megahalems will result in better temps drops.

You're completely right in both regards. Whenever someone comes in here and asks if they should get a TRUE or a Megahalems, I'll point them to the Mega! The point of the graph is to prove that my "dinosaur" TRUE still can keep up decently with the best. "zomgiwin" seemed to be downplaying it's usefulness, so just making a point.
