Today I was getting frustrated with how hot my MUGEN-2 was running my Core i7 920 during Linx tests @ 3.84GHz(21*183, 1.30vcore). After I added a pull fan to the opposite side of the Scythe CPU fan, Max temps went down ~3C. Switching that additional fan to work as another push from the bottom dropped the temps ~2C more than when it was a pull.
I dug around and found an old brushless DC squirrel cage fan in my box of random stuff. I love that box. From what I remember, these things flow at 120+ CFM. So I switched the additional fan back to a pull and set up the squirrel cage to blow through the middle of the MUGEN-2 from the bottom. And yes, I really did use a rubber band to hold the fan to the cooler. those things are AWESOME !This happens to be a 12v DC fan, and the wires were clipped. After stripping off the ends, I poked the wire into a spare floppy power source cable coming from my PSU(heh, who uses floppies anymore?). The connector for the floppy drive is very small compared to the larger IDE/ATA hard drive/Optical Disc drive connector, and the single strand copper wire i spliced the fan to fit perfectly in the holes(remember yellow/any color is positive, and white/black is negative), and it is a 12v source. You can get these squirrel cage fans from any old dell power supply. I think I got mine from an old GX280(p4 northwood @ 2.8ghz etc). Or you can find them at any surplus store, like skycraft(W00T I live only a few miles from this place!) Skycraft Surplus. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Anyways, my original Linx max temps were 85C and 81-83C average after just the 3rd run @ 15500 problem size running at 183BCLKx21 with 1.3vcore, 1.335qpi/vtt. Idle temps were ~43-44C. Ambient temps for both runs were both ~24C. ![]() As you can see, the max temp is now 72C during Linx. Pretty impressive for a small squirrel cage fan! I was about to buy one of those delta fans for $30+ but this seems to work just as well .Edit: i really need to work on wire management

Nice. Now what you REALLY need to do is get some nice 120x38mm fans. some Ultra Kaze's would you good for now. then tape the sides of where there is no fan it should be good for you.

Wow good job but my dell E310 doesn't have any fans like that.
Luckily it has a 120x38mm Delta

Those squirrel fans are REALLY loud unless you adjust the speeds. I have one laying around that I pulled, but I decided I couldn't do anything with it since it was deafening.

LOL... Also by cleaning up some wires in your case, it will also shave another 5c off your temps...

Get some rounded IDE cables... It should help a bit with your airflow.
