Anyone else think they need to start making dimension stats for motherboards in regards to CPU center mass to first RAM slot?
A very frequent question in regards to so many people that change out their CPU cooler is "Will it fit?". So what is the best way to find out whether that new mobo that you just purchased online will work with that new CPU cooler you want? Dimensions for CPU coolers are all over the place but without the actual mobo in your hand there is no way to tell whether it will fit or not...right? Or is there? +rep for anyone that has a good answer to this....otherwise I might just make a mobo sticky called "Will it fit?" or something like that LOL. Just ask for people to start measuring their mobos, give me the data and put it into a spreadsheet.... P.S. I patent the idea for the thread! (why not google patents ideas )

1.know the amount of (horizontal) space between the first ram slot and the outter edge of the socket. 2. go to the site from which you purchased the heat sink/ measure it by hand and get the width of the whole unit and then subtract the diameter of the copper piece from that number. 3. Do the math and there you go! of course it varies from board/heatsink so always measure it! Again im sorry if i didn't explain myself to clearly. i hope you got what i was trying to get across. sugar

P.S. Eyeballing works fine but sometimes even your measurements aren't precise enough...take my Megahalem for example...I have pics in my 3rd link in sig but basically my 38mm thick fan is pushing on my RAM.

Well in that case, i think you should toss up that thread that you patented and see how that goes considering nobody else seems to want to give any input. And yeah you are right, there is no way of telling the exact measurement of the ram to socket distance unless you have the board on hand (or you start up that little spreadsheet previously talked about and get everyone you can to actually measure in mm and inches if possible. )\
best wishes, sugar sugar
